The Shakers developed their own system of musical notation, composed over 10,000 works of music, and even invented (in 1871) a new instrument called the piano-violin. However, only one original Shaker music stand is know to exist. We have designed a music stand which can be used while seated or standing. It adjusts in height from 41" to 54". The tilt of the music rest adjusts into any of three positions. Solid clear Pennsylvania cherry. Shown in Shaker Oil Finish. Desk measures 17 3/4" x 11 1/2" high. This furniture kit contains all the materials needed, except the final finish, including sandpaper, Shaker Oil Finish, hardware, and simple step-by-step instructions. Each component has been precisely fashioned to assure an accurate fit before you do the final hand sanding and finishing. Only common hand tools are needed to assemble our kits. You'll discover that the simplicity of Shaker furniture makes it not only beautiful, but also easy to assemble.

The sese wood mask is carved by hand and embellished with colorful trade beads. The Pende people live on the banks of the Kasai River in Zaire. Every time a river, stream or lake is purified, appreciation is shown to the god that inhabits the waters for its protection. Yearly and periodic rituals are therefore done to appease and thank the gods for their protection and longevity. Please note this mask is crafted by hand without a previous sketch or mold. The beaded work may vary slightly in pattern and color in subsequent masks therefore rendering each one unique and exclusive.Salihu Ibrahim says,"I worked with the chief's head carver for about 15 years, during which time I learned the various styles and techniques of Ashanti and Akwamu traditional methods of wood carving."
