"Kruang-Kern [lacquerware] is part of our rich culture," explains Nantana Sompamitre. "Every generation strives to preserve this ancient art form." Sompamitre carves the octagonal tray from mango wood. Painted by hand, the piece receives several coats of lacquer, which Sompamitre prepares from the Gluta usitata tree and ashes of burnt rice paddy husks.
